E.P.S.C.A., the English Primary Schools' Chess Association, exists
to advance the education of primary school aged children by teaching,
supervising and developing the playing of chess by those children.

and Regulations)
Much of this work is done by the member associations, which are
primary schools chess associations covering local areas, such
as Lancashire, Devon and Barnet. Click
here for a list of associations and the areas they cover.
E.P.S.C.A. holds three annual championships for member associations
- Under 11, Under
9 and Girls Under 11. The
Under 11 Championship is for teams of 20, whilst the Under 9 and
Girls Under 11 are for teams of 12. The Under 11 and Under 9 Championships
have two stages: heats, commonly known as zones, followed by the
final. The Girls Under 11 is just a final. All these are run as
jamborees.
In addition, E.P.S.C.A. is responsible for the running of the
National Primary Schools' Chess
Championships (N.P.S.C.C.). This competition attracts a massive
entry from school teams all over the country, is run at Under
9 and Under 11 level over three stages, culminating in the finals
in July.
E.P.S.C.A. has another important rôle - that of selecting
and running the England Under 11 and England Girls' Under 11 teams.
