Inter-Association Championships 2026

The 2026 season marked a transition year for the Inter‑Association Championships, with revised team sizes and a new zonal structure bedding in across the Under‑11, Under‑9 and Girls’ competitions. A particularly encouraging development was the growth of the Girls’ event, which saw substantially higher entries than in recent seasons. The updated format also attracted renewed interest from a wider range of associations, although the season again highlighted the importance of securing venues and local volunteer support well in advance to ensure smooth delivery across all regions.

Footnotes

a) Transition Year and Rule Development

This season represented a transition into revised formats and updated regulations. As expected in a change year, feedback from arbiters and associations highlighted several areas where further refinement and clarification will be beneficial. EPSCA will continue to review and improve the rules to ensure consistency, transparency and smooth operation across all events.

b) Venue Availability and Late Bookings

A significant number of venues had to be secured at short notice, creating both cost pressures and travel challenges for participating associations. To reduce this risk in future seasons, EPSCA strongly encourages associations to offer suitable venues earlier in the planning cycle. Early commitments will help ensure fairer travel distribution, lower costs, and more predictable scheduling for all teams.

Closing Section

EPSCA extends its thanks to all host schools, arbiters and volunteers for their support throughout the season. Their efforts ensured that the revised formats and expanded participation were delivered smoothly despite the logistical challenges inherent in a transition year.

Dates for the 2027 season have been confirmed, with zonal events scheduled for February and March, followed by finals in April and a contingency Minor Final in May. EPSCA continues to refine competition formats, clarify qualification rules, and improve venue accessibility for all associations.
